    Leverage

"Emergency Travel Infusion, Inc." will help the travel industry during times of crises. By nature, the nation will face during exactly those times more urgent crises such as dealing with casualties, injuries, health issues, misplaced people, mass property damage, security issues, etc.

It is understandable that people would think that there are more urgent issues to deal with than helping the travel industry. "Emergency Travel Infusion, Inc." will agree with that. Yet, it will be a critical mistake to neglect the travel industry all together without thinking of the consequences that may follow just weeks later and its effect on the entire economy.

More so, in a situation where the disaster is a result of terror attack it is essential to return to normal life immediately and not provide the terrorists the felling of victory.

One of the ways in which "Emergency Travel Infusion, Inc." will attract the public's support is by committing to be very efficient and perform with great leverage. As a matter of fact, "Emergency Travel Infusion, Inc." strives to be the leading organization with the leverage that it provides.

By leverage I mean the ratio between the efforts we ask the public to make and the benefits those efforts will bring to the community.

One major difference between "Emergency Travel Infusion, Inc." and most other organization is that we will NOT ask for special donations to be paid for us but rather request the parties to pay directly to the travel industry. This will give the public extra control on how efficient the funds are used.

Many people and companies showed their generosity after September 11th and gave money to charity. Unfortunately, the leverage of many of those programs - with good intentions as they were - was very poor.

Worse, many of those charities were performing as contrary-stimulate programs. Many people and companies felt that they did not have any more money to spend after giving to charity.

Some companies even canceled their New Year parties in order to save and give more funds to charity. I think this attitude was a strategic mistake because it develops even more "have NOT" and "out of the normal" atmosphere.

All of that is not to criticize the good will of the companies and people that gave money to charity. It is just that many decisions were made emotionally at a time when in my opinion there should have been stronger leadership that would have inspired for much more productive alternatives.

Indeed, many of the problems the nation faced after September 11th were due to lack of leadership that had control and monitored the "BIG PICTURE".

The philosophy behind the ideas suggested in this site is to develop an atmosphere of generosity and an attitude of "Have YES". This is a state of mind that "Emergency Travel Infusion, Inc." believes is crucial to get the nation out of recession.

"Emergency Travel Infusion, Inc." wants people to feel powerful during future disaster. Society needs to be in control over the circumstances - not bonded under it!

For that reason, "Emergency Travel Infusion, Inc." strives to develop very efficient ideas and use the funds in a very high leverage.

Number of companies tried to help the local economy even more than just giving money directly to charity. Central Pacific Bank (Local bank in Hawaii) is such an example. They gave each one of their employees 100 dollars in order for them to spend in Waikiki (the tourist area of Hawaii).

"Emergency Travel Infusion, Inc." is encouraged by such actions of private parties. Still, in the page below "Emergency Travel Infusion, Inc." offers even better ways in which their help could have had greater results. This is in no way criticism against the bank. Yet, it is legitimate for our organization to keep searching for better and more efficient ways.

You see, even with their best intensions nobody knows for sure how much of that money was used to actually support businesses of Waikiki and how much of it was used by their employees for their groceries and for paying other bills.

One possible scenario is that each employee spent $60 in Waikiki and pocket $40 for other uses. In this case the leverage was 60%. In another possible scenario employees spent $140 in Waikiki (by adding $40 of their own money). In this case the leverage was 140%.

We use the term leverage regarding how much good was achieved per every dollar given by the companies (the bank in this case).

Our guess is as good as anybody else's regarding which scenario was the more realistic one (and I say this without any criticism towards the bank itself - they are not even allowed to control this aspect).

However, according to "Emergency Travel Infusion, Inc." suggested program Central Pacific Bank would have not provided the funds directly to the employees themselves but rather directly to the businesses of Waikiki. By doing so, they would have assured that the entire funds went towards businesses of Waikiki.

They would have received great discounts (large quantity during emergency times in a program that is designed to support the tourist industry will result in at least 50-80% discounts) and would have inspired their employees to spend addition amount out of their own pocket.

My vision was for the bank to arrange for one (and even two) night hotel and two pre-paid activities (such as Jet ski, Catamaran sailing, etc) for each employee who desires to participate. I believe that at the time they could have got it all for about $70-$100 per employee (this is under the umbrella of a much larger group of thousands of employees from other companies).

By the bank giving this package to their employees they would make sure every employee who wants to participate in the program would actually spend two (or even three) days in Waikiki. We believe that by that they will spend at least $100-$200 additional funds out of their own pocket.

Now we have a situation in which the bank spends about $70-$100 per employee while the employees themselves spend additional $100-$200. That would have raised the leverage to about 200%-300% - not to mention all the social benefits.

This would have been also great saving to the bank because their cost per employee would have been reduced. On top of that, they would have NOT been required to pay for each one of their employees because some may decline to participate in the program (we believe that by giving each of them $100 the bank was legally obligated to give it to everyone of their employees regarding if they had any intension of visiting Waikiki or not).

In addition, the bank could have requested their employees to take a two (and even 3) day un paid vacation for the visit (we offer ways in this site to help the employees). This would have provided the bank even greater savings.

All in all, this was a great opportunity for the bank to save on payroll, to boost the morale of their employees by offering them 2-3 day vacation with paid activities and bring people physically to Waikiki.

Note- People raise their eyes when we suggest that local Oahu residents should stay in hotels of Waikiki. We feel very strongly about this not only in order to support the hotel industry, but also because we know that otherwise people will bring their own lunch, go home for dinner and bring their own lunch for the second day. More so, they will not use any of the entertainment facilities and will reduce the affect of the whole program.
